Earth Speakr – An interactive digital artwork

Let’s Listen to what the Next Generation has to Say

“In today’s debates over climate policy, it is crucial that the voices of the next generation are heard loud and clear, since it is they who will live in the future that we are currently shaping.” — Olafur Elíasson

Based on this crucial thought, the artist, and inventor of the solar light social business LittleSun has created Earth Speakr. Earth Speakr is an artwork created by Olafur Eliasson with his studio, kids, creative partners, researchers, and experts. It is funded by the Federal Foreign Office on the occasion of the German Presidency of the Council of the European Union 2020 and realised in cooperation with the Goethe-Institut. The interactive and digital artwork application has been pre-launched at the Summer of Purpose hosted by Grameen Creative Lab in late June 2020.

As a free-of-charge application that is available in all 24 official languages of the European Union, Earth Speakr allows kids to animate their environment using playful interactive technology. By giving their voice to anything around them — be it a banana peel, a plastic bottle, an old tree, or the blue sky — people below the legal voting age are animated to speak up for the planet of their future and express their thoughts, concerns, and ideas on the topics that bother them, such as climate change or plastic pollution.

A crucial aspect of the artwork is the communication of Earth Speakr’s young users to today’s global leaders and policymakers. So, make sure you check out earthspeakr.art and follow the project on social media @EarthSpeakr
