Yunus Environment Hub and Common House launch an open-source platform at the Zero Waste Forum to accelerate the global transition toward sustainable reuse and refill systems.
Open Reuse Announced at the Global Zero Waste Forum
Istanbul, Türkiye – 19 October 2025 – As governments, businesses, and civil society accelerate efforts to curb plastic pollution, Yunus Environment Hub (YEH) and José Manuel Moller, Founder & CEO of Common House, with support from the Röchling Foundation, announced the upcoming launch of Open Reuse, an open-source platform designed to scale sustainable reuse business models worldwide.
The announcement took place at the Global Zero Waste Forum 2025, where Christina Jäger, Co-Founder and Managing Director of YEH, and José Manuel Moller, who is also Vice-Chair of the United Nations Advisory Board on Zero Waste, unveiled a first look at the platform.
Plastic packaging waste has reached record levels: over 140 million tonnes are produced annually, yet less than 9% is recycled. Reuse models offer one of the most powerful pathways to reduce waste upstream. According to the Breaking the Plastic Wave report by PEW, reuse-consumer models can reduce packaging mass by 65%, and reuse-new-delivery models by up to 88%, compared to single-use plastics.
“With Open Reuse, we aim to empower entrepreneurs and organizations to design reuse systems that are not only environmentally sound, but also socially inclusive and economically viable” Christina Jäger, Co-Founder and Managing Director of Yunus Environment Hub.
Open Reuse was developed to close critical knowledge gaps that hinder the growth of reuse systems. Built on Jose Manuel Moller and Algramo’s pioneering reuse experience and YEH’s global expertise in scaling social business models, the platform provides users with step-by-step guides, digital tools, and practical resources to design, launch, and scale reuse solutions that are both impactful and financially sustainable.
“For reuse to become mainstream, we must make it simple, accessible, and collaborative,” said José Manuel Moller, Founder & CEO of Common House. “Open Reuse democratizes access to the knowledge we’ve gained in building successful reuse systems, so anyone can adapt and scale these solutions globally.”
Through the platform, Open Reuse aims to foster a just and inclusive transition to circularity -empowering entrepreneurs and businesses with clear blueprints and best practices. By making proven methodologies and expertise openly accessible, the platform seeks to help users overcome key knowledge barriers while encouraging systemic change.
