Scaling Reuse Models: A Partnership Between Yunus Environment Hub & Algramo

Yunus Environment Hub and Algramo have joined forces to drive the adoption and expansion of reuse models worldwide. With support from the Röchling Foundation, this collaboration will establish the first open-source global resource platform, equipping entrepreneurs and organizations with essential digital tools and knowledge to get started on their reuse initiatives. By scaling reuse models, we aim to reduce single-use packaging and divert plastic waste from landfills.
Enabling Return and Refill Systems
While reuse models offer a powerful solution to plastic waste, scaling them remains challenging due to several barriers, including:
- Regulatory gaps or restrictive policies
- Insufficient infrastructure
- Lack of standardized packaging solutions
- Limited expertise in running sustainable reuse businesses
This platform is designed to empower implementers—entrepreneurs and organizations eager to launch return and refill systems—by providing them with the necessary tools and knowledge to get started.
Through our platform, users will be able to:
- Identify the most suitable reuse model based on their local context.
- Access information on financial and business models to ensure long-term sustainability.

About Algramo
Founded in 2012, Algramo is a Chilean-based social business tackling the “poverty tax”—the higher costs low-income communities pay for consumer goods due to single-use packaging. By offering products in refillable and reusable packaging, Algramo reduces both waste and costs, allowing customers to purchase only what they need.
As a recognized leader in the zero-waste movement, Algramo’s CEO, José Manuel Moller, serves on the UN Advisory Board of Zero Waste and has received numerous prestigious awards for his work in sustainable innovation.
